Zach Glavash

An 800-meter specialist out of Illinois Valley Central High School in Chillicothe, Zach Glavash won two state championships, then added championships in both the Big Ten and Big 12 conferences in college and was named first-team all-America.

Glavash won IHSA Class A championships in 2002 and 2003, setting the Class A state record with a 1:52.81 clocking in 2003. He also won the 400 at the Illinois Prep Top Times Meet in 2002 and the 800 there in 2003.

He signed with the University of Illinois, where in 2005 he was Big Ten indoor champ in the 600 and Big Ten outdoor champ in the 800. He also helped the Illini win the Big Ten outdoor title in the 4 x 400 relay and the Drake Relays title in the distance medley.

Glavash transferred to Texas Tech, where in 2006 he set the indoor school record in the 800 at 1:46.80 and then won the Big 12 outdoor title in 2007. He earned indoor all-America honors in 2006 and outdoor all-America in 2007, when he went on to finish seventh at the U.S. national championship meet.

When his competitive career ended, Glavash coached at Texas A&M, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Tennessee, and Texas before returning to Texas Tech as an assistant coach, helping direct the team to the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field championship.
