Corky King

A 1971 graduate of Richwoods High School, Corky King returned to his alma mater as a swimming coach and launched one of the greatest careers in state history. From 1979-2014, Corky would coach 48 seasons (36 boys, 12 girls), compiling a 372-67-1 record in dual meets. His teams at Richwoods (1979-99) and Hinsdale Central (2000-14) won 46 conference titles, 41 sectional titles and placed in the top three at the state championships eight times. Seventy-seven of his swimmers achieved high school all-America status. Corky was named the Illinois Swimming and Diving Association Boys Coach of the Year eight times. In his 21 boys seasons at Richwoods, Corky coached 19 all-Americans and the Knights were unbeaten in conference competition, winning all 110 dual meets and all 21 conference championship meets. They finished third at state three times. His 12 Richwoods girls teams were 67-1 in duals, with 12 conference championships, and the Knights had three all-Americans. Corky also coached USA Swimming for 35 years. In 2014, he won the John Newman Hall of Fame Award, the highest honor presented in Illinois aquatics. In 2017, Corky was inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
