Figure Skating Hall of Fame

Matt Savoie

A member of the Bradley University Athletics Hall of Fame, Savoie achieved international recognition in men’s figure skating during the 1990s and 2000s, highlighted by a seventh-place finish while competing for Team USA at the XX Olympic Winter Games in 2006 in Turin, Italy. Savoie qualified for the 2006 Olympic Games by winning the bronze medal at the U.S. Championships. Savoie learned to skate in group lessons operated by the Peoria Park District. He went on to represent the Illinois Valley Figure Skating Club and he based his training at the Owens Center in central Peoria throughout his career. Among his many achievements on the ice, Savoie was a three-time bronze medalist at the U.S. Championships, earning first-alternate for the 2002 Olympic Games. He won the gold medal at the 1997 U.S. Junior Championships and he finished fourth at the 1999 World Junior Championships.
