Mary Ellen Hill-Schupbach
Hill-Schupbach starred in the area as both a prepster and collegian, first at Princeville High School then at Bradley, as one of the area's top female distance runners. After winning four conference championships in the 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters at Princeville, Hill-Schupbach claimed 10 Missouri Valley Conference cross country and track individual championships at Bradley from 1996-2000, while also twice earning NCAA Division I All-America honors in the 5,000 meters. In addition to her individual titles at the 1998 and 1999 Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Championships, Hill-Schupbach led the Braves to their first-ever conference crown in any women's sport in school history as co-champions with Drake in 1998. A seven-time Academic All-American, Hill-Schupbach received a prestigious NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship and was the recipient of the inaugural Dr. Charlotte West Award as the year's top all-around, graduating student-athlete in the Missouri Valley Conference. She also was selected the Illinois NCAA Woman of the Year in 2000.
