Baseball Hall of Fame

From 1980-2008 at Bradley University, baseball coach Dewey Kalmer won more games than any coach, in any sport, in school history, posting a record of 842-772-4. At the time of his retirement, his teams accounted for exactly one half of all the program’s wins through 108 seasons. Including 11 previous seasons at his alma mater, Quincy University, Dewey won 1,032 games in 40 seasons and became the 36th coach in NCAA Division I baseball history to win 1,000 games. Dewey coached 56 players who were selected in the Major League Baseball annual amateur draft. Eight of his players reached the big leagues, including Baseball Hall of Famer Kirby Puckett. Dewey coached consecutive first-round draftees Jim Lindeman (1983) and Mike Dunne (1984). Every season from 1984-2009, at least one of Dewey’s former BU players could be found on an active MLB roster. He also served as senior associate athletics director at Bradley for 15 years and was inducted into the BU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011.
