Mike Robinson Sr.
From 1972-76, while at Woodruff High School, Michael Robinson Sr. scored 1,926 points to set the all-time Peoria area high school scoring record, which stood for more than 20 years. It was broken by his son, Michael Robinson Jr., who is also in the Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame. During his high school career, Mike Robinson Sr. also grabbed 1,312 rebounds. He averaged 28.8 points per game as a senior and 15.9 rebounds in Mid-State 9 Conference games. Mike was signed by coach Dick Vitale to play at the University of Detroit. When Vitale left, Mike transferred to Southeastern (Iowa) Community College, then to Southwest Missouri State (now Missouri State). There, he was a two-time first-team all-conference selection in the MIAA and a third-team NABC Division II all-American in 1980. He set two-season school records in scoring (1,154 points) and rebounding (650), averaging a statistical double-double each season, including 23.3 ppg and 13.6 rpg as a senior. In 1980, he set the Bears’ single-game homecourt rebounding record at the Hammons Student Center, with 26 against Northwest Missouri State. In 2009, Mike was named one of the top 20 players in Missouri State history during a celebration of 100 years of Bears basketball.
