Bruce Boyle
In his seven seasons as Peoria Central High School basketball coach, Bruce Boyle compiled a record of 153-38 for an .801 winning percentage, the highest of any Peoria prep coach in seven or more seasons.
He coached Central to the 1977 state basketball championship with a 29-2 record, the Lions going unbeaten in the Mid-State 9.
During his head coaching career at Central, his teams won two Mid-State 9 titles, five regional championships and made four state final appearances. Aside from his state title, his 1973-74 team finished third in the state.
He was the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association divisional Coach of the Year in 1974 and IBCA Coach of the Year in 1977.
Boyle was named Tri-County Sports Figure of the Year in 1977 and was inducted into the IBCA Hall of Fame in 1990. His 1977 state championship team was inducted into the Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame in 1988.
A native of Springfield, Ill., and a graduate of Illinois State, Boyle was an assistant coach at Limestone High School for one year before joining the staff at Central in 1960. Coaching frosh-soph teams in four sports before becoming varsity baseball and basketball coach in 1969, his various teams posted a record of 143-36.
