1959-60 Bradley Men’s Basketball Team
Bradley's 1960 NIT champions posted a 27-2 record, with losses only on the road to Missouri Valley Conference rivals Cincinnati and Houston. The Braves avenged the loss to Cincinnati, defeating the No. 1 Bearcats, 91-90, in Peoria, and finished the season ranked No. 4 in the country.
After finishing second to Cincinnati in the MVC, Bradley accepted the NIT bid and cruised to the championship, defeating Dayton, 78-64, No. 9 St. Bonaventure, 82-71, and No, 14 Providence, 88-72.
This was the second of Orsborn's three championship teams and marked the Bradley debut of all-American and future longtime NBA star Chet Walker. Chet “The Jet” averaged 21.7 points while Dan Smith, Al Saunders, Mack Herndon, Bobby Joe Mason, Mike Owens, Ed Wodka and Lee Edwards also played key roles.
Others on the team included Ted Horwath, Chuck Hewitt, Mickey Tiemann, Bob Ortegel, Larry Mormino, Don Kissock, Ed Kissel, Billy Roecker, Chuck Sash, Ray Mack, Chuck Granby, and Bob Carruthers (manager).
