Jerry Rashid

Over 39 years coaching high school baseball, Jerry Rashid compiled an overall record of 808-456-1 for a .639 winning percentage, reaching the IHSA state tournament three times and winning the 2006 Class A state championship with a 40-2 record. That Illinois Valley Central team was ranked No. 40 in the nation by Baseball America.

He was head coach at Princeville (1979-86), Bergan (1986-89), Peoria Notre Dame (1989-2005) and IVC (2005-2017). His teams won 17 regional titles and four sectionals. In addition to the state title, his IVC teams took second in 2008 and third in 2010, both in Class 2A. Rashid was inducted into the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2000 and was named Tri-County Male Coach of the Year for 2006.

In 2008, he was a finalist for the National Federation of High Schools National Coach of the Year. Upon his retirement from high school coaching, Rashid’s 807 victories ranked sixth all-time in Illinois. He came out of retirement to coach baseball at Eureka College.

Rashid coached several players who were selected in the Major League Baseball draft, most notably Zach McAllister, who was drafted by the New York Yankees and pitched for the Cleveland Indians in the 2016 World Series. Rashid also coached MLB Hall of Famer Kirby Puckett in the Central Illinois Collegiate League.
