The 1974 golf season was truly a vintage item for the Pekin High School golf team and coach Delmar Davis.

Prior to sweeping through the two-day state tournament at Champaign, the team went 27-0 in dual meets in the regular season (the frosh-soph team added a 17-0 mark), won the Mid-State 9 conference and was second in the Mid-State 9 tournament.

In the state series, Rob Louchart, Doug Fort, Chris Fort, Steve Funk and Dan Norton formed the team through the district tournament, the sectional and the state.

Louchart shot a 71 and Doug Fort a 72 as Pekin won the district with 289 strokes. In the sectional Doug Fort had an amazing 62 at Bunker Links with Norton adding a 70 and Funk a 71 as Pekin won with 275.

Pekin then easily dominated the state at the University of Illinois course at Savoy.

With the top four scores counting, Pekin held an eight stroke lead over Rockford Guilford after the first day, 306 to 314, with Doug Fort shooting 71, Louchart and Chris Fort 78, Norton 79 and Funk 84.

On the final day Pekin had 303 to finish with 609 against the 615 of Normal U-High. Louchart led with 72, Doug Fort had 75, Chris Fort 77, Norton 79 and Funk 80. Doug Fort was second in the state with 146. Pekin had finished second in the state in 1973 and tied for third in 1972. For the three years its dual meet record was 69-4.
