Pekin's 9-0-1 season was Coach Joe Venturi's first undefeated Pekin team and the school's first in 30 years. Led by Dennis Hurley and featuring Jim Laudenslayer and Burt Dancey, this explosive gridiron squad out-scored opponents 259-59, while holding four of them scoreless. Only twice did they give up more than on touchdown. The only tie was a 7-7 standoff with unbeaten Spalding before 10,162 fans at Peoria Stadium.
