Richwoods High School captured its second state golf title in three years when it won the 1962 state tournament at the Urbana Country Club.
Coached by Carl Traficano, the Knights trailed Hinsdale by one stroke after the opening 18 holes but then came on strong to whip Hinsdale 630 to 640 on the second day. Champaign, Freeport and Streator tied for third place.
Bob Moreland and Terry Schad, who had played for Richwoods when it won the 1960 state crown, keyed the Knights on the way to their second title.
Schad shot a 75 to lead the Knights on opening day with Tom Cole firing a 79, Moreland an 81 and Rich Hoadley and Doug Proctor with 82s.
On the second day, as the Knights pulled away from the field, Moreland led with a 74, while Cole shot 79, Schad and Hoadley 80 and Proctor 82. Moreland and Schad each finished with
