The 1960 Richwoods High School golf team won the city's second state prep golf championship, and the first since 1938, when it whipped Urbana by three strokes to win the title at the University of Illinois course.

Richwoods finished at 663 for the 26-hole event with Urbana following with 666. Joliet Catholic, Elgin and Downers Grove rounded out the top five.

The Knights, coached by Tony Juska, shot their best golf on opening day. Bob Moreland led the Knights with a 74 with Dave Van Lanen firing 78, Finley Brown and Mike Finney each 79 and Terry Schad 83. This gave Richwoods a 10-stroke lead over runner-up Crystal Lake.

On the second day Moreland shot an 83 to finish in a tie for fourth place while Schad had 82, Finney 90, Brown 93 and Van Lanen 94. Only the top four scores counted each day in the team totals.

Richwoods also won the Mid-State 8 title, swept the District with a 280 team total at Madison, and was second in the Illini Conference Tournament.
