1.2.1. Athlete nominees for induction to the Hall of Fame must be retired from their sport for at least 15 years (high school accomplishments only); 10 years (combination of interscholastic and intercollegiate accomplishments). An athlete who has competed professionally will be eligible immediately upon retirement, or upon advancement to the senior-age level of competition. Post-collegiate amateur athletes will be eligible for nomination upon retirement from their sport, or upon advancement to a senior-age level of competition. A waiver of the retirement clause may be granted, by unanimous consent of a board quorum, if an active athlete has competed in his/her sport for at least 25 years.

1.2.2. Coaching nominees for induction to the Hall of Fame must be retired for at least three years, or must be at least 65 years old. A waiver of the retirement clause may be granted, by unanimous consent of a board quorum, if an active coach has coached in his/her sport for at least 25 years.

1.2.3. Other "professional" nominees (administrators, media, etc.) must be retired from full-time work in their profession, or must be at least 65 years old. A waiver of the retirement clause may be granted, by unanimous consent of a board quorum, if the individual has worked in his/her field for at least 25 years.

1.2.4. Other nominees (volunteers, etc.) must have at least 25 years of sports service to the community.

Once a name is placed in nomination, it will remain on the ballot for 10 years, or until the person fails to receive at least 20 percent of the Board vote for three consecutive years or until the person is elected to the hall of fame, whichever event comes first. If, after 10 years on the ballot, a nominee has failed to reach a level of support to qualify for induction, the name will be deleted from the ballot and deferred to the old-timers committee for consideration after the nominee has attained an age of at least 65 years. If, over three consecutive years, a nominee fails to receive at least 20 percent of the Board vote, the name will be deleted from the ballot and deferred to the old-timers committee for consideration after the nominee has attained an age of at least 65 years.

Mission Statement

Mission Statement

The first official Board of Directors meeting was held October 14, 1979. Officers were elected. Early decisions determined that the Hall of Famers would be from the Greater Peoria Area; the name would be The Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame; its purpose would be to promote and encourage the many varied sports programs in our area, to share with the area the pride we have in the accomplishments of area athletes, and to honor those men, women and teams contributing to our enjoyment and rich sports history.

With the cooperation of the Peoria Civic Center Commission and generous community support, the Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame is a reality and it's future is bright..
