After 30 years of coaching, Tom Peeler ended his career as head football coach at Richwoeds High School with one of the proudest moments in Tri-County football history. He led Richwoods to a Class 5A State Championship. The 21-14 win over Deerfield High marked the first time in 11 years of playoffs a Peoria team got past the second round.
Peeler is retiring from coaching this year with a 188-1O4-2 record overall. His record at Richwoods High School where he has coached for the past 20 years is 129-68-1. His teams were noted for their discipline, technique and fullbacks. Kevin Hattendorf was his all-state fullback this past season. Peeler received great satisfaction in his coaching career in being able to coach his four sons: Tom, David, Jeff and Greg. The football squads on which his sons played produced a record of 59-4-1 including the 13-0 season and a state championship this year. His son, Greg, was quarterback of this team. Peeler has coached seven conference champions and seven of his teams were unbeaten in regular season play.
