TriCounty As a Washington sophomore in February 2010, Dylan Reel won the IHSA Class 2A individual wrestling title at 160 pounds, beating classmate Jack Dechow of Richmond Burton 3-2 to improve his season record to 46-1.
Before swapping wrestling shoes for football cleats, the two-time IHSA champion also traveled in July to Fargo, N.D., site of the junior national championships. Reel beat Kyle Crutchmer of Broken Arrow, Okla., to win the Greco-Roman title at 160 pounds in the Fargodome, one of USA Wrestling’s most celebrated venues.
For good measure in the fall, Reel led the football-centric Mid-Illini Conference in rushing as a junior. He finished the Panthers’ 6-4 season with 1,127 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns.
Allyn Stout![]() Born in Peoria in 1904, Allyn Stout broke into the majors with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1931. Although he posted a 6-0 record in 30 pitching appearances in his rookie season, arm trouble prevented him from participating in the 1931 World Series against the Philadelphia Athletics. Well-respected by his teammates, however, Stout was voted a full share of the World Series bonus pay and he was presented a World Series ring. Stout went on to a 6-year career with St. Louis, Cincinnati, New York and Boston, appearing in 180 games with a 20-20 record and 4.54 ERA. |
