A 6-foot-2 Woodruff High School graduate, Lewis played for the United States silver medalist team in the 1976 Montreal Olympics game at Montreal a year after helping the U.S. women capture the Pan American 1975 games gold medal in Mexico.

At Illinois State, Charlotte played basketball for four years, graduating in 1978 with a B.S. Degree in Physical Education. A two-time Street & Smith All-American selection, Lewis shot .505 from the floor to average 18.4 points and grabbed 9.2 rebounds in 52 varsity career games for Illinois State. At ISU, she also competed in track as a long jumper and javelin thrower, with a 14th place national finish in the latter event.

Lewis played Professional Basketball from 1978 until 1990. She played on several Professional teams, traveling extensively both as a player and coach while promoting women's basketball. She was voted Top Player in Brazil in 1989 and Captained the 1986 All-Star American Team in Spain. She is a former Tri-County Sports Figure of the year, a 1977 Kodak All-American, and a member of both the Illinois State and Woodruff High School Halls of Fame. She was the 1976 YWCA Athlete of the year and ISU Outstanding Athlete in 1977 and 1978.

She now resides in Peoria where she is the Program Director at Carver Center. Her sister, Nora, is also being inducted into the Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame.
