TriCounty Rod Butler of Richwoods High School coached his football team to an undefeated season of 14-0 and a 5-A State Championship and for the fourth consecutive year his team captured the Mid-State Conference title. Last year Butler's Richwoods football team won 5-A Runner-up in the State and 13-1.
Rod Butler became head coach of Richwoods High School in 1985 after serving as assistant football coach since 1978. His record for the past four years as head coach is 46-4.
Before 1978, Rod was defensive coordinator at Morehead State University for one year, served seven years as assistant football coach at Illinois State University and was head coach of Princeton High for three years.
He was drafted by the Chicago Bears after his 1963 season at Eastern Illinois University and then signed as a free agent with the Denver Broncos in 1964.

He excelled in sports at Limestone High School earning letters in 3 sports. His senior year, he played every down of the Limestone football season, led the basketball team in scoring and pitched the baseball team to the 1956 IHSA State Tournament. |
