TriCounty As a Washington sophomore in February 2010, Dylan Reel won the IHSA Class 2A individual wrestling title at 160 pounds, beating classmate Jack Dechow of Richmond Burton 3-2 to improve his season record to 46-1.
Before swapping wrestling shoes for football cleats, the two-time IHSA champion also traveled in July to Fargo, N.D., site of the junior national championships. Reel beat Kyle Crutchmer of Broken Arrow, Okla., to win the Greco-Roman title at 160 pounds in the Fargodome, one of USA Wrestling’s most celebrated venues.
For good measure in the fall, Reel led the football-centric Mid-Illini Conference in rushing as a junior. He finished the Panthers’ 6-4 season with 1,127 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns.
