A.G. "Frenchy" Haussler

Dr. A. G. "Frenchy" Haussler had a national impact on athletics throughout his career as a performer, coach, school administrator and U.S. Olympic official. As a long-time Vice President at Bradley, he was responsible for creating an atmosphere which led to the University's emergence as an athletic power.

An athletic standout at Peoria Central, Haussler became football and basketball coach at Pekin in 1925. During 17 seasons, his football teams won 93 games, lost 39 and tied 17 for a .705 winning percentage.

As Pekin basketball coach in the same period he finished with a 284-133 record, taking three teams to the state tournament. His 1934-35 team was third in the state with a 27-4 record. His first two basketball teams were also outstanding, the very first in 1925-26 going 21-3, and the second going 19-2.

Haussler coached on the Aurora high school scene after leaving Pekin before joining Bradley as an administrator.

Long one of the nation's most respected sports officials, he chaired the U.S. Olympic Canoe Committee for many years.
