Ron Ghidina

Ron Ghidina etched his name in hallowed territory in 1986 when he won his seventh Men's City golf tournament, thus tying the late and brilliant Gus Moreland for the most city titles ever.

Starting his state and local amateur golf career in 1957 after playing four years at Pekin High School and three years at Western Illinois University (where he was conference champion all three years) Ghidina began his city golf tourney run that year when he shot a record-setting 65 at Northmoor to win the first of his six city tourney medalist titles.

He won his first city crown in 1962, strung three in 1969-70-71, and then won in 1974, 1977 and 1986. He took his sixth medalist trophy in 1998.

Ghidina has won dozens of other tournaments including the Illinois State Amateur in 1973.

He won the Pine Hills Invitational in Ottawa five times, the Heart of Illinois Invitational five times, is a five time winner of the Mt. Hawley Country Club championship; won the Amateur division of the Peoria Open twice; won the Illinois State Moose championship in 1962, is a past Tazewell County champion and played in the Public Links National tournament.
